Dirt Track World Championship 2008
28th Annual Dirt Track World Championship goes to Birkhofer Official Release FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
By Scott Wolfe
CHILLICOTHE, OHIO- The Dirt Track World Championship always brings some type of magic to it. Saturday's 28th annual DTWC by gottarace.com before most likely its largest K-C crowd was no exception. "Dominating!" That one word is an understatement, but the closest word Webster had to offer in describing Brian Birkhofer's most prestigious career win. What started as a firefight in Carl Short’s premier event, quickly turned into a cakewalk as Muscatine, Iowa driver Brian Birkhofer pulled off the $50,000 victory in the late model portion of the DTWC program at Jim Nier's K-C Raceway near Chillicothe, Ohio. 28TH Annual Dirt Track World Championship Modified official release FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MODIFIEDS
By Scott Wolfe 10/18/2008
CHILLICOTHE, OHIO-Loretta, Kentucky driver Jason Wheatley put his name in the record books as the winner of the 28th Annual Dirt Track World Championship by gottarace.com modified portion of Carl Short's "Crown Jewell" event at Jim Nier's K-C Raceway.
"I've always liked this track, but I've never had any luck here," sighed an obviously overjoyed Wheatley. "I ran out of gas here, I got in a wreck, and I got into one of those big uke tires y'all have down there. I felt like this place owed me one, but this will make up for it."
"The restarts were killing me," Wheatley noted. "He ( Rick Hensley) was getting a good jump and holding a good, fast line on the bottom. I had some good runs on him, but when I'd get set to make the pass, here came a caution. I knew if I was gonna get by I had to move up and make a move. We got together a little bit, but we kept it clean and I was fortunate enough to get by for the win."
Three days of first class, wheel-to-wheel racing culminated with Saturday night's first feature event-- the Open Wheel Modified main. With champions from many of regions top series, and many track champions the racing proved to be as good as it gets in any racing venue. One hundred-eleven cars from eight states and Ontario, Canada took time trials for opening night of the 28th annual Dirt Track World Championship at Jim Nier's K-C Raceway between Waverly and Chillicothe. Matt Aber of Wooster, Ohio, set fast time 0f 16:021 with an average speed of 105.3 miles per hour on the 3/8 mile clay oval. Read More

K-C Announces Camping and 4 wheeler policies for 28th annual DTWC
CHILLICOTHE, OHIO-The 28th Annual Dirt Track World Championship presented by gottarace.com will be held from October 16-18, 2008 at Jim Nier's KC Raceway south of Chillicothe, OH near Waverly, OH and is being promoted by mega-promoter Carl Short. Management of the upcoming DTWC presented by GottaRace.com (DTWC)
and KC Raceway have announced its policy regarding ATV usage at the crown jewel race that will be held October 16-17-18 at Jim Nier’s Speed plant. Short will pay the winner of the crown jewel race $50,000.
No four-wheelers are allowed anywhere on the K-C Raceway premises. No ATV's are permitted in the
camping area, nor will they be permitted in the pits due to another anticipated overflow number of race teams. Golf carts, however, are permitted in the main parking lot and camping area only. No Golf carts in the pits. A five-mile per hour speed limit will be enforced to ensure the safety of all fans.
Camping is allotted on a first-come, first-serve basis with 50 spots in the main area and several hundred in the adjacent field. All camping will be paid-camping this year at a nominal fee. K-C Raceway purchased the adjacent field last year to accomodate large crowds for the DTWC and has leveled off the hillside to make placing campers easier for its loyal fans. The construction also expanded the area to make more room, while an extensive drainage system was installed to help in damp weather.
Said Jim Nier, "We put a lot of time and money into making this a good set-up for the fans, especially those who camp and enjoy the atmosphere of this race. We want everyone to have an enjoyable time and feel like they are safe and welcome. The camping area should make a great place to set-up for camping and take in the racing."
All camping is primitive and there is no need to call to make reservations, however, fans are encouraged to call the speedway office with any questions (740-289-4114). Campers are asked to conserve space and clean up after themselves by bagging trash and observing the rights of other campers.
"We have a great facility, and most of all we have great racing," said Nier. "Both our staff and Carl (Short) are committed to this race and making it better each and every year. We've tried to keep up with the atmosphere of this race and worked on the logistics of the grounds. With the ATV's and Golf Carts we certainly apologize for any inconveniences, but safety is a concern. One injury is one too many."
Management noted that most people are responsible, but some get careless.
For the second year in a row dirtondirt.com will sponsor the Fast Time award. Brady Smith picked up a cool grand at last years DTWC for his efforts.

K-C Raceway World of Outlaw Results July 26, 2008
By Scott Wolfe
CHILLICOTHE, OHIO-For the 12th time this season and his third win in six K-C tries, Sioux Falls, South Dakota driver Donnie Schatz throttled to victory at Jim Nier's K-C Raceway in the 40-lap Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws A-main. Former champ Keith Berner claimed the 25-lap late model main.
Great racing highlighted the entire evening as always with the notorious traveling group.
By virtue of winning the Crane Cams dash, Northern Ohio driver Chad Kemenah paced the WoO field to the green flag, only to have Donnie Schatz put on a slide job that wouldn't stick. Kemenah continued to lead the first three laps until Daryl Pittman brought out the race's first caution with a turn four spin.
Schatz tried Kemenah on the restart, but Kemenah rode the high side, reminiscent of his championship days. Just as Dale Blaney applied pressure on Schatz, Sam Hafertepe, Jr. brought out the caution with a spin in turn two. In a replay of the previous restart, Schatz dove low, but Kemenah's momentum once again carried him to the front.
Two laps later, Jimmy Stinson was collected up in a turn-four melee with Shane Stewart as the field took evasive action. A great battle developed between Jason Meyers and Terry McCarl, as Kemenah began to stretch it out for some breathing room. On lap 14 track owner/promoter Jimmy Nier snagged the turn three wall and flipped wildly several times before landing on his side. Moments later, Terry McCarl, commited to the top, piled in and hit the motionless car of Nier. Nier emerged only shaken, but his car was much worse for wear.
Schatz put on full battle armor for his dual with Kemenah; however, Kemenah repelled the South Dakota driver's challenges for several more laps. Dave Blaney made it a three-way race as the two-front runners engaged. On lap 24 Schatz finally made it stick as he blasted by Kemenah in turn three. A couple laps later, Blaney followed in suit and began to run down Schatz. Everyone kept an eye on Kraig Kinser as he charged from the tail to 11th.
Blaney closed in on Schatz between laps 25-30, but lapped traffic stifled his winning bid. The top ten were-Donny Schatz, Dale Blaney, Jason Meyers, Chad Kemenah, Joey Saldana, Kerry Madsen, Jac Haudenschild, Steve Kinser, Butch Schroeder, and Tim Shaffer
"In the early going I just had to by my time a little bit and figure out my car a little bit. I had to figure out how to make it stick," said Schatz in victory lane. "Once I figured out where I was fast things came to me. I was a little better on green flag runs, but accidents do happen. The car was fast all night long."
On the last lap after the checkered flag had waved Butch Schroeder tangled with King of the Outlaws Steve Kinser as both tumbled to a stop with Schroeder landing partially on top of Kinser.
The C-main Last Chance showdown was won by Adam Strausser followed by young Cale Conley who also transferred to the B-main. The Crane Cams Dash was won by Ohio charger and former K-C champ Chad Kemenah over Donnie Schatz. Delaware, Ohio driver Todd Kane earned a spot in the A-main with a B-main win over California's Paul McMahan, Rob Chaney and Tony Bruce, Jr. who all transferred to the feature.
Kraig Kinser was the hard charger in coming from 25th to 12th. Cale Conley won the Super Clean "Clean Start" Award.
Wheelersburg, Ohio driver Rod Conley took the initial lead in the 25-lap companion late model main, but his run was cut short when he lost a drive shaft on the second lap. Former champion Keith Berner inherited the point with Ben Adkins close-by in the catbird's seat.
With Berner jumping into a comfortable lead, the battle of the race was for second between Ben Adkins and Greg Oliver. The fierce assault would not dissolve as the pair rode within inches of each other to the halfway point. By now Adkins shook Oliver and closed the gap somewhat on Berner. On lap 14 Berner rode into lapped traffic, and slowed just enough that Adkins quickly closed the gap.
Then came a caution, setting the stage for what many thought would be an old fashioned shootout. It didn't materialize as Berner was lightning fast with clear sailing ahead of him. Jason Montgomery finally won a race-long scuffle with Mike Wilson for fifth.
"It's great to get this win tonight," said Berner in victory lane. "We kind of beat ourselves up all week, cause I felt we gave one away when I hit the wall last week. This sort of redeems us. And its the first one of won for my car owner and that's good for us and the team."
Behind second place Adkins, was Oliver, Delmas Conley, Jason Montgomery, Mike Wilson, Doug Dodd, Skip Watterman, John Whitney, Jeff Houser, and Larry Smith. Veteran Delmas Conley was the hard charger of the race.
K-C sits idle for the next two weeks, then reopens August 16 for the Sprint car season championship and Modified championships.
